John Wei will provide a basic introduction on venture capital industry and share his perspectives on start-ups from an investor’s point of view.
John is a Venture Capital investor at SABIC Ventures, the corporate VC arm of petrochemical company SABIC. He leads SABIC’s investments in the US and in China, with a focus on post-seed stage startups in advanced materials and energy sector.

Xiao-Yan Gong, PhD. Xiao-Yan Gong received his BS in Peking University, Ph.D. in Mechanical Properties of Materials from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Dr. Gong is an expert in medical device industry with direct product design, evaluation and regulatory application experience. He advocated the use of structural computation in early design phase to include predictive durability, advanced the knowledge of Nitinol fatigue and modernized the multi-axial fatigue safety computation technologies for medical device industry. He started his industrial career working for Carbomedics Inc., a prosthesis heart valve manufacturer in Austin, in June 1998 before joined Nitinol Devices and Components, a Johnson and Johnson company in 2000. In August 2006, he founded Medical Implant Mechanics LLC (MIM), a consulting firm provides product design, evaluation and durability assessment. In less than three years, MIM has helped its clients successfully launch more than billions of dollar valued products. Today, in addition to design evaluation and advanced computation services, MIM also provides customized in-vitro testing services, Nitinol wire based medical device OEM services, and pulsatile pump series.
He started Suzhou InnoMed Medical Device Co. Ltd.(苏州茵络医疗器械有限公司) in January 2013. Today, InnoMed has received all level China government talent awards with support funds, angle and series A investment. The well funded company has a broad patent portfolio with a few new product under development. Its peripheral stent system has recently received Reddot design award. This product has completed its animal study implantation and in the phrase of initiating and clinical studies in China
